Our beloved Deacon, Elax Tucker Jr., known as Bootsy, was born on May 5, 1965. He was a graduate of Wynne High School, graduating with the class of 1983. He was a Truck driver for 35 years, having a business with his brothers called Tucker Boyz Transportation.
There was never a dull moment with Deacon Tucker. To know him is to love him and the joy he brought into your presence. He was well-known as our church comedian and would have you laughing.
Deacon Tucker loved to sing. He was a member of the Sr. Choir for many years. He was beyond excited when the male chorus got together after many years of not singing. He was so delighted he started leading songs with the group. The most famous song he sang with the Male Chorus was “Old Lord” by the Canton Spirituals. This prompted many songs he led, such as Call Jesus, God Told Noah, and many others. He was never afraid to burst out with a piece while praising God. Deacon Tucker became the president of the Male Chorus and was a devoted leader.
During the year of COVID, many modifications had to take place, including the choir. As years passed, our church opened its doors again, and service was back in session. Tucker loved the Male Chorus and wanted to start singing on the third Sunday again. It was approved, and he was a happy soul! It was not long before Deacon Tucker took sick and could not grace us with his presence and voice.
He continued to praise God and sing with the choir through the live services operated by New St. James. As options retook place, The Male Chorus sang one last time on the third Sunday, and he was right there watching and singing along with the group, not knowing it would be his last time.
Deacon Tucker was the husband of Mrs. Marilyn Tucker for 37 years. He was a leader, father, papa, big brother, and a true friend who loved serving the Lord. He will be missed deeply; our forever Bootsy. His race did not run in vain.
A homegoing celebration for Deacon Tucker is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2023 at noon in the Wynne High School auditorium.
